What The BL:UF is

The BL:UF — "The Bottom Line : Up Front" — is an independent news digest. Every story leads with the point, in plain language, before the context. No clickbait, no 2,500 words before the thing you came for. We cover what is real, serious, and getting buried under noise — US, UK, and international.

The name is the format. BLUF is an old briefing discipline — bottom line up front — and it is the promise we make on every story: if you read only the first line, you are not misled.

What we do, and what we don't

We report what happened. When a story carries political framing — from any direction — we separate the documented facts from the contested interpretation and tell you which is which. We don't adjudicate the debate. We give you what's verifiable and trust you to think.

And sometimes, when the tension in a story is real and nobody else is naming it, we name it. One sentence. No editorializing beyond that.

Who is accountable

The BL:UF is produced by The BL:UF Desk and overseen by the Editor. The buck stops with the Editor for everything we publish — accuracy, fairness, and corrections.

If we get something wrong, write to the desk. We correct openly — see our Corrections policy.

How we use AI

The BL:UF is produced with the help of AI tools, under human editorial direction and review. We think you have a right to know that, so we say it plainly. Read exactly how, and where the human line sits, in our AI Disclosure.

Ownership and independence

The BL:UF is an independent publication in the Move The Needle family, alongside our sister projects WCID and LegisPlain. We run house promotions for those projects, always labeled as such. We do not sell coverage, and no advertiser or partner decides what we report or how we frame it.

How we work

Our sourcing, verification, and fairness standards are public. Read the Editorial Standards & Ethics — including the eight transparency indicators we hold ourselves to and the rule that every fact must trace to a primary source before we publish.
